Located on a strip of land on one of Florida’s barrier islands wedged between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, this 7,000 SF residence celebrates the ecology of its unique site, encompassing bayside mangroves, oak hammock, coastal sand dunes and ocean front landscape. The client and design team goal was to “respect the people and the land, and the rest will follow.” The goal of the main house was to create living spaces that responded to the unique location and met the needs of a multi-generational family. A contemporary mixture of furnishings and natural finishes and materials creates warmth and an inviting atmosphere throughout the home. Attention to detail and seamless integration of the family needs creates a comfortable yet sophisticated space. The palette of materials is inspired by the colors and textures of the gulf, sky, sand and native vegetation. Each element is careful not to disrupt the overall balance of the space, with a home designed to be comfortable whether occupied by two people or ten people.
